Raaj Kumar was born on 8 October 1926. His real name is Kulbhushan Pandit who originally started his career as sub-inspector. After switching to acting, in the late 40s he went on to become one of the influential character actors for 40 years. His notable films are Oscar-nominated Mother India (1957), Rangili(1952),Nausherwan-E-Adil(1957), Waqt(1965), Dil Ek Mandir(1963), Paigham(1959),Pakeezah(1972),Heer Raanjha(1971), Hamraaz(1967), Ek Nai Paheli(1984),Marte Dam Tak(1987), Kudrat(1981), Saudagar (1991), Tirangaa (1992). His last film was God and Gun (1995).He died on 3rd July 1996 for throat cancer. He won two Filmfare Awards.
